I’m all for people having more than one horse…
but not at the cost of their care.
My friend has 7 horses and she rides maybe two three times a week, and even then it’s just light hacking. Yes, I have one of them on share, so at least he gets taken care of but omg it pisses me off.
She has all these horses with amazing talent and she just shuts them out in the field 24/7. Let’s go through them shall we?
An amazing thoroughbred X that can jump twice her own height; been in the field for 3 years, unused.
An all rounder cob with a to-die-for personality; used him for a month and then bought another one, so he’s been out there for at least 4 years, with the odd hack out when she’s giving her main pony a break.
Her main pony, a welsh section C who can win anything as long as you put some effort in (i.e. schooling) guess what? He hasn’t seen the inside of an arena for almost a year. She just takes him to shows without any practice and expects him to get her wins.
2 show ponies she’s to big to even ride; one’s overweight because he hasn’t been used in so long and the other’s just come back from a loan home and is rapidly losing shape, but she’s not even trying to keep him fit.
Tyson, the welsh D I have on share. He was in the field for about 3 years before I came along, and then there’s her little miniature shetland. He doesn’t have a stable, or a field they just leave him loose in the garden 24/7. She didn’t even put a rug on him when it snowed.
And guess what? They’re buying another one. A 16.2 eventer! I’m taller than her and I ride a 16h horse, even though he’s actually slightly too big, so why they think getting her a 16.2 is a good idea is beyond me. They don’t have a stable for him and I just know she’s going to put him out in the field and leave him to be wasted. What is the point?
Okay. Rant over.
Even though I’m sure it’s a form of animal neglect.
